Getting Up To Speed With Weslo Treadmills

Getting Up To Speed With Weslo Treadmills

Weslo treadmills are made by Icon Health and Fitness. It is by far the largest manufacturer of exercise equipment in the world. Many brands are household names. The company makes the following brands, Weider, Reebok, Proform and Image and others.

Icon makes models in all price ranges. Weslo are the cheapest machines made by Icon. Home treadmills can be priced from anywhere between $500 and $7000. Weslo model prices range from $99 to $500.

Many trade reviews of Weslo treadmills give them a somewhat poor rating. But this is unfair. There are very few other brands that cost as little its machines. So, these 'expert' reviews typically mean comparing it with a brand that costs far more. The reviewer isn't comparing like with like. Therefore, if you have already read some reviews and are thinking that they are bad; think again. For their price, they aren't half bad.

Low priced machines are going to lack power and will come with smaller running areas than their more expensive counterparts. Cheap models are very much entry-level units that have been designed for lighter use. They are for power walkers or occasional running. Serious runners should invest in one costing over $1000 or stick to the roads; this company's machines aren't for you.

Also, not everyone can justify paying big bucks for what is still just a piece of fitness equipment. For power walkers and joggers who usually run outside, but are looking for an indoor machine for occasional use, a Weslo for under $500 might be a good choice.

Like most things, you should buy the best you can afford. The same applies to treadmills; what ever your fitness level or running experience. But, if you're on a budget and your limit is $500 then your best choice is probably going to be one of this company's machines.

Of course, when you buy a cheap model you're going to have to accept its shortcomings. Perhaps, the biggest shortcoming of any low cost piece of equipment will be the short warranties; Weslo is no exception. Warranties can be extended on its appliances, but you're probably better off not doing this. Many consumer organizations see this simply as a profit making scheme for the manufacturer with no real benefit to the consumer: most goods will outlast these extended warranties, and the cost of the warranties can add significantly to the overall cost or the product.

The company currently offers the following machines.

Weslo Cardio Stride Plus WLTL0153

The cost of this machine starts at $99. It's only good for walking. It features a Step-by-Step Console with an extra-large LCD display, a three-position incline with dual flywheel and SpaceSaver design. It is a manual treadmill so there's no motor - you didn't expect to get a motor at this price, did you?

Weslo Cadence C22 Treadmill WLTL1932

This is a good introductory model costing around $200. It's ideal for walkers. The speed dial is easy to use allowing you to gradually adjust your pace. The Step-by-Step Feedback console display lets you keep track of speed, time, distance, calories and fat calories burned. There are three incline positions; 5, 7 and 9%. The motor speed is 0-5 mph and the treadbelt is 13" x 40".

Weslo Cadence G-25 Treadmill WLTL19105

You get a slightly faster motor with this model; 0-6 mph. The treadbelt is a little longer though still quite narrow at 13" x 43". Apart from these, you get the same features of the Cadence C22. Funnily, it's the same price of the C22!

Weslo Cadence C44 Treadmill WLTL29305

If you want to run you should buy this model. It has a 2.25 THP Impulse drive system, Comfort Cell cushioning, digital speed and an EKG Heart Rate Monitor. The treadbelt is longer and wider at 16" x 47". Top speed is 10 mph. The C44 comes with a 1 year warranty, which is better than the other models.

When reading reviews of treadmills you should take note if the reviewer is making a comparison between like machines. Many reviews of the Weslo treadmill don't do this. For their price they are good machines and will satisfy the needs of many first-time users.
